Voluntary Buy Back Program
After the devastating floods of 2021-2022 that damaged more than 7,000 homes, the Australian and Queensland Governments jointly funded the Resilient Homes Fund. It was the first program of its kind in Australia, allowing property owners to register to have their home retrofitted for resilience, raised or purchased by the government through a Voluntary Home Buy-Back Program (VHBB).
SC Group were pivotal is the design of the program guidelines and administration of every property’s transaction. We were responsible for the quality control of every valuation report to ensure property owners were getting a fair deal. We were also the primary contact point between the QRA and ten local councils our program operated in, which required strong relationship building and coordination.
The program was an overwhelming success with 685 homes purchased and 212 hectares of residential land removed from the state’s floodplains. Each home represents a person or family who was able to move on from the devastating damage and have a fresh start. We are immensely proud of this program and our contribution to a more resilient Queensland.
